Young people and trusted adults walking together

Help immigrant young people grow with confidence, belonging and purpose.

Elevate Zone depends on trusted adults who can guide, encourage, protect and walk alongside young people as they navigate life in the UK.

Become a Mentor

Guide. Support. Empower.

Mentors are the trusted guides who help young people reflect, build confidence, set goals and take meaningful steps forward.

Mentor role

For people who want to make a steady, positive difference.

As an Elevate Zone mentor, you support immigrant teens and pre-teens through structured sessions, regular encouragement and culturally aware guidance.

You do not need to have all the answers. You need consistency, empathy, strong boundaries and a willingness to help young people discover their own voice.

What mentors do

Mentors help young people explore identity, confidence, school life, friendships, goals and future readiness. They provide guidance, not pressure; encouragement, not judgement.

  • Build trusted relationships with assigned mentees
  • Support goal-setting and reflection
  • Encourage participation and confidence
  • Maintain professional boundaries
  • Use strengths-based language
  • Record progress, notes or feedback where required

What makes a good Elevate Zone mentor

A good mentor is culturally sensitive, patient, reliable and safeguarding-aware. They understand that young people may need time to build trust and should never be rushed into confidence.

Volunteer as Session Support

Be the calm, watchful presence that helps sessions stay safe.

Session Support volunteers help protect the wellbeing of young people while mentors focus on delivering the programme.

Session support role

For responsible volunteers who care deeply about safety and wellbeing.

Session Support volunteers are not there to take over the mentoring. They help create the conditions where mentoring can happen safely.

This role is ideal for people who are observant, calm, safeguarding-minded and willing to complete appropriate training.

What session support volunteers do

Session Support volunteers provide a supportive adult presence during live sessions. They help observe the session environment, notice wellbeing concerns and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.

  • Support safe and welcoming live sessions
  • Observe calmly without disrupting the mentor
  • Help maintain professional session boundaries
  • Watch for wellbeing or safeguarding concerns
  • Follow escalation procedures promptly
  • Support a respectful and inclusive atmosphere

What this role is not

Session Support is not counselling, teaching, therapy or discipline.

Who we are looking for

We welcome responsible volunteers who are passionate about keeping children safe, willing to follow safeguarding procedures and either already safeguarding certified or willing to complete training.

Our shared commitment

Every adult role is safeguarding-first.

Whether you mentor directly or support sessions in the background, your role helps young people feel safe, respected, included and valued.

Child-driven practice

We let young people move at a pace that feels safe, giving them choice, voice and agency in their development.

Trauma-informed awareness

We recognise that migration, racism, bullying, separation or social isolation may affect confidence and wellbeing.

Cultural sensitivity

We honour heritage, family values, faith, language and identity while helping young people navigate British society.

Clear boundaries

We use approved channels, professional conduct and clear safeguarding escalation routes to protect everyone involved.
